There are certain basic steps to follow when you want to know where God wants you to go. God has left some signs on the road for us so that we can know where he wants us to go.
First sign: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and withal your strength.” (Deuteronomy 6:5)
Stopping to read this sign is worth it. To start off in the right foot you must learn to love God more than anything else. You see you will walk toward what you love; it will draw you to it. Until you love God more than anything else you won’t be headed in the right direction.
Second sign: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
These two steps seem similar but the first one is about giving your mind and emotions to God but this second verse talks about “seeking” actually moving into action, seek for the kingdom of God, study His word, accept his righteousness, find the way to be right with God by accepting the righteousness that he offers us, find yourself clean and acceptable to God through your faith in Jesus. This seeking happens on our knees and in the study of His word. This verse says that if you seek God first He will bless you with all the other good things that He has in store for you. Everything comes in a package nothing comes alone. If you seek God first all the other blessing come with it but if you seek the world, a man, a woman, a house, a career it all comes in a package, it brings things that you must accept along with it.
Third sign: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” (Pro 3:5)
What this sign says is don’t doubt God’s methods no matter what the circumstances; never exchange God’s methods for your own methods no matter what. Only through His methods will you be guided to your destiny. Once you start trusting man’s common sense instead of God’s sense you are beginning to follow the wrong signs. You may have great excuses but they are still wrong.
If you somehow feel that you have deviated from the right path go back to the first sign and follow it.
